Le Mans Series

A new series for 2004, the Le Mans Endurance Series aimed to return endurance racing to its former status within motorsport by staging four 1,000 Km races at classic European circuits. This it did admirably, with strong and full grids at all rounds. Since 2005 the Series has been expanded to five events.

Put together by the Automobile Club de l'Ouest, and using the same technical regulations as for the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the series acts as a perfect counter-balance to the success of the North American ALMS. Most significantly, the LMES was formed with the agreement and co-operation of sportscar racing's two main regulatory bodies, the ACO and the FIA, thus encouraging a rapprochement which will benefit all involved. For 2006 the series has been re-named the Le Mans Series.
